Welcome to the Iowa Institute for Public Accountability! We’re glad to have you here.
Our mission is to bridge the growing divide by promoting government transparency and improving citizen-government interactions at all levels – federal, state, and local.
We believe that in order for government to reflect the true will of the public, it must be as open as possible. The free press must be sustained and supported; access to public records and decisionmaking processes must be kept free; each member of the government must, at all times, make it their mission to make their work as transparent as practicable.
Our work includes submitting high-impact targeted Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)/Iowa Code Chapter 22 (Open Records Law) requests; facilitating and collaborating with government officials to ensure they are aware of the requirements of sunshine laws; and educating the general public about their rights under such laws.
